Ex-NFL Player Pleads Guilty To Drug Charge
TAMPA, Fla. (AP) — Former NFL and University of Florida player Donald Reche Caldwell has pleaded guilty to drug charges.
The U.S. Attorney's Office reports that Caldwell pleaded guilty Wednesday to conspiracy to possess with intent to distribute a positional isomer of butylone, also known as ethylone, and commonly marketed as the street drug "Molly." Caldwell faces up to 20 years in federal prison.
A plea agreement states that the 35-year-old Tampa resident accepted a parcel from China containing 1.5 kilograms of ethylone in May. Several days later, investigators say Caldwell sent a second parcel to Atlanta containing 1 kilogram of Ethylone.
Caldwell was a standout wide receiver at Florida and was chosen in the second round of the 2002 NFL draft by the San Diego Chargers. He also played for the New England Patriots and Washington Redskins.
