Ex-Broward Commissioner Eggelletion Freed From Prison
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – A former Broward County commissioner convicted on corruption charges was released from federal prison Wednesday morning.
Josephus Eggelletion, 63, was freed from a federal prison in Georgia around 9:30 a.m., according to officials with the Federal Bureau of Prisons.
He must report to a probation officer in South Florida in the next few days to begin a three-year period of supervised release, which is the federal version of probation.
In December 2009, Eggelletion was sentenced to 2 ½ years in prison on a federal conviction of money-laundering conspiracy and filing a false tax return. He also was convicted at the state level for taking bribes from developers.
He started his prison sentence in May of 2010 but received time off for good behavior and for completing a substance-abuse program for his alcohol addiction.
Federal prisoners typically only serve about 85 percent of their sentence when time for good behavior is taken into consideration.
