Everglades Teacher Resigns After Sexting With Student
MIRAMAR (CBSMiami) – Language arts teacher Frank Borzen has lost his job after an investigation revealed he posted inappropriate language in Facebook messages to one of his students.
A mother alerted school officials that she had found sexually explicit messages to her daughter, a 19 year-old learning-disabled student, sent by Borzen who taught language, peer counseling and football at Everglades High School in Miramar.
The 31 year-old teacher was removed from the classroom after the complaint was brought last fall, and resigned his position in May.
According to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel, investigators retrieved racy messages from the teacher on the girl's Facebook page.
In one case he wrote, "Everyone wants to rape me except you. How come when I said 'let's make out,'...you didn't?" In another missive the teacher invited the girl to join him in his Jacuzzi. "If you wanted it bad enough, you would get here," he is quoted as writing.
Borzen declined to speak with CBS4 News Wednesday, scurrying away from a news crew that approached him on the front walk of his home in Hollywood.
Some of the teacher's students had spoken well of him on the website, RateMyTeachers.com.
"The BEST teacher at our school," one student wrote. "Love him," said another student. A "mad, funny, easy going dude," wrote another.
News of Borzen's graphic exchanges with his student left some feeling let down Wednesday.
"I had him as a teacher. He was a good teacher," said Denetria Johnson. "But when I heard about this, I was disappointed."
In a report from school investigators, Borzen is quoted as admitting to sending the torrid entreaties to his student.
"It's inappropriate, there's no other way to explain it," he said.
However, In an apparent effort to defend his behavior, Borzen said of the student, "She's learning disabled, but she's not socially disabled."
The girl told investigators she didn't take the teacher's Facebook messages seriously and considered them a joke. The student said there was never any physical contact between her and her teacher.
School officials declined to discuss the case Wednesday.
The matter has been referred to the Florida Department of Education, which could choose to revoke Borzen's teaching certificate.
A spokesperson for the Miramar police department said the school system notified the department of the Borzen case, but that there is no further investigation underway.
