Everglades Ranger Recovering From Rattlesnake Bite
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - It was Miami-Dade Fire Rescue's Venom Response Unit to the rescue after a park ranger was bitten by a deadly snake.
On Saturday, Everglades National Park Ranger Anthony Terry was bitten by an eastern diamondback rattlesnake.
Eastern diamondback rattlers are native to Florida and are considered the largest of the rattlesnakes.
Miami-Dade Fire Rescue said it takes only 70 milligrams of venom from this snake to kill a human in two hours. One bite from an eastern diamondback rattler can inject up to 800 milligrams of venom which causes tissue death and prevents the person's blood from clotting which can cause them to bleed to death.
Terry is in the Intensive Care Unit at Homestead Baptist Hospital and is expected to make a full recovery.
