Evans: Skill Sets of Tannehill and Luck 'Are Really Close'
"I'm so in love with the man Andrew Luck and everything else that he brings to the table," NFL Network's Heath Evans said on Hochman, Crowder and Krantz. "I had to go back this offseason and the truth is I did some bad analysis on Andrew last year because I get so enamored with everyone he does so spectacularly well that I missed a lot of bad football. Channing would tell you, we're only really graded on the most pressure-packed moments of our careers.
"You look at Andrew and in bright and shining moments last year, the guy played some really bad football... The truth is I love the kid and the kid is a spectacular quarterback and he's probably gonna rewrite the record books in a lot of ways but he got away with a lot of bad football because people are so in love with the kid."
How far away -- from a skill/ability standpoint -- is Ryan Tannehill from Andrew Luck?
"Listen, if you're trying to build a quarterback you're honestly building Aaron Rodgers," Evans said. "And if you look at Aaron Rodgers and Ryan Tannehill, you get the same thing. Athleticism. Tall. Fast mindset skill that processes information very quickly. Never gets rattled. Can scramble out of the pocket. And then obviously if you can have a 235 version of that in Andrew Luck, then of course you'll take the bigger body. The skill set of what they're capable of, I'd say they're really close. The development level, I mean Ryan is going into his fourth year of the NFL... this kid's got a long way to grow and he's grown every year. Most young players don't grow because they don't study, they're lazy, they're stupid, they just don't pay attention, they don't take coaching. This kid's gotten better every stinkin' year... "
