Alleged 'Energizer Dummy' Accused Of Stealing 54 Truck Batteries
BROWARD (CBSMiami) – According to more than a dozen arrest reports, Thomas Shipley, 39, of Port St. Lucie and Sebastian, is accused of stealing more than 50 heavy-duty batteries from commercial trucks around Broward County.
Citing detectives, the South Florida Sun-Sentinel reports he confessed to selling the batteries to Capital Scrap in Deerfield Beach to support a drug habit.
Shipley allegedly stole more than batteries: a U-Haul Ford F-150 pickup truck his mother had rented for him went unreturned, despite his mother's pleading.
According to arrest reports, Shipley told detectives the truck was used to transport all the stolen batteries to the scrap yard, the arrest reports stated.
