Emergency Fix For Lauderdale's A1A To Begin In January
FT. LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – An emergency fix for a stretch of State Road A1A in Ft. Lauderdale which was badly damaged by Superstorm Sandy swells and seasonal high tides will get underway in January.
The plan was developed by the City of Ft. Lauderdale, the Florida Department of Transportation and the Florida Department of Environmental Protection, according to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald.
The four block stretch, just North of Sunrise Boulevard, has huge cracks in the asphalt and downed palm trees. Barricades currently block two of the four lanes.
The plan is to clean up the area, add some sand to the beach and re-stripe that portion of A1A. Metal sheet pilings will be installed at least 40 feet in the ground to help serve as a barrier between the beach and the street.
The work will take several months to complete.
