Eight Arrested In Miami During Walk For Missouri Teen
MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) — Police arrested eight people who had gathered along with dozens of others in Downtown Miami to protest the death of a black teen shot by an officer in Missouri.
Our news partners The Miami Herald reported eight "Dream Defenders" were arrested after refusing to leave a building after it closed and given disturbing the peace citations. They have been released.
The eight were part of about 100 civil rights activists walked from a college campus to a federal justice building Thursday in honor of slain teenager Michael Brown.
They also brought up their own grievances in a city that has struggled with race relations and police brutality for decades.
It's been a year since 18-year-old Israel Hernandez-Llach died after a Miami Beach police officer shocked him with a stun gun as he resisted arrest for spraying graffiti.
Activists want the U.S. attorney to get involved.
