Ed Reed Says He's Not Done Yet
NEW ORLEANS (CBSMiami) – The Baltimore Ravens knew they were losing a future Hall of Famer in Ray Lewis following Super Bowl XLVII. But the Ravens are also likely to have to watch the defense's other playmaker in another uniform next year.
Ed Reed, 34, declared emphatically in the locker room following Super Bowl XLVII, "This is not it. This is not it. I'm not done," according to the Baltimore Sun.
Reed did what he does best during the Ravens' thrilling victory over the 49ers, make the big plays on the biggest stage. Reed had an early interception of 49ers quarterback Colin Kaepernick that led to an early Ravens touchdown.
University of Miami fans are used to seeing Reed make the big play dating back to his college days. He almost single-handedly helped win a championship when he took the ball from a teammate and ran it back for a touchdown against Boston College during his college career.
Still, Reed has battled injuries in recent seasons and some had speculated the Ravens' victory may have been his final game. Reed is an unrestricted free agent and likely to cost the Ravens too much to keep next season, unless he offers a hometown discount.
"I'll reassess things the way I always do and we'll tune in and get back to you all," Reed told the Sun. "It's all about the moment."
Given Reed's ball skills and his ability to make a game-changing play, he will be in high demand as a free agent. Early speculation has linked Reed to the New England Patriots, which would be bad news for the Miami Dolphins and quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
