MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Miami Heat star Dwyane Wade has been playing his best basketball of the season in recent weeks and it's no coincidence that the team has been climbing the standings during that time.
On Monday we found out that people outside of South Florida are taking notice of Wade's recent hot streak.
The NBA has announced that Wade was named the Eastern Conference Player of the Week for games played Monday, March 16 through Sunday, March 22.
This marks the 17th time during Wade's career that he has been named the East's Player of the Week.
Miami played four games during the 7-day period with Wade averaging 24.5 points on 53.2 percent shooting, 2.3 rebounds, 4.0 assists and 2.25 steals while leading the Heat to a 3-1 record.
Two of the four games saw Wade eclipse the 30-point mark.
Combined with starting point guard Goran Dragic, he and Wade are shooting 49.3 percent from the field, which is the highest combined shooting percentage for a starting backcourt pair in the NBA.
Along with his scoring prowess, Wade has also been a clutch player for the Heat down the stretch of games. He's currently second in the league in fourth quarter scoring, averaging 7.0 points during the final quarter this season.
Heading into Monday night's contests, Miami is holding the seven seed in the Eastern Conference with a record of 32-37. The Heat trail 6th place Milwaukee by 1.5 games but hold a 1.5-game lead over 8th place Charlotte and a 2-game lead over Boston and Indiana, who are tied for 9th.
Miami had won seven of their last ten games before losing on Sunday in Oklahoma City.
