Dwight Howard Wants Out Of Orlando
ORLANDO, Fla. (CBSMiami.com) – He's known as Superman on the court, but center Dwight Howard may be beginning to think the Orlando Magic are his kryptonite.
Howard has long been the target of teams in New York and Los Angeles. As he enters the final year of his contract, the Magic are facing the decision of whether to let Howard walk and get nothing for him or trade him and get something.
Howard told ESPN that part of his problem with the Magic is his quickly fading relationship with current Magic general manager Otis Smith.
Howard even said he doesn't have a good relationship with Smith and questioned his ability to surround Howard with good players.
"I'm pretty sure if you go down the line of teams, every GM has a pretty good relationship with not just the best player but all the players," Howard told ESPN. "If you don't have a good relationship with the people you work with, how are you going to get better?"
The big man may have wanted to have more input on the organizational side of the team, but he hasn't reached that level of a superstar to have personnel input. In fact, most players never reach that level.
As for potential trade partners, Howard received permission to talk with the Los Angeles Lakers and the New Jersey Nets.
The Lakers have the better player to trade, Andrew Bynum, but the Nets have more picks to trade, two first-round picks. The Nets also throw in Brook Lopez for a Howard trade.
The ball is now in the Magic's court as to what will happen to Howard. But, with the NBA schedule being expedited; the team will likely move quickly to solve the Howard issue.
