DUI Suspect In High-Speed L.A. Chase Hits Miami Family
BURBANK (CBS4Miami) — A Miami family, traveling in Southern California, got caught up in a wild police chase involving a suspected drunk driver.
The DUI suspect led police on a high-speed chase through the San Fernando Valley and ended about an hour later in Hollywood.
According to CBS2 in Los Angeles, the car traveled over one hundred miles per hour at times.
One of his tires blew out during the chase which sent sparks from the hub cabs. With his tire completely gone, the suspect drove on his rims.
Eventually, he side-swiped another vehicle being driven by Bryant Valencia from Miami.
Valencia told CBS2 that his 3-year-old son was hospitalized with back pains but said his son will be okay.
"I saw this Mercedes coming right at me and I managed to swerve off a little bit and he hit me in the back. "We rolled over, I don't know how many times. My baby, my 3-year-old son and my wife, luckily they are fine and the car held up pretty good," said Valencia.
The suspect was taken into custody after crashing into the Valencia's car.
While being cuffed, the suspect was asked if he thought he was putting people in danger. He replied, "I would never ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever, ever disrespect law enforcement when they were chasing me. I would never run. Running isn't a good thing."
When asked if he realized that he hurt people in the other car, he replied, "Do you realize I need help?" He also said he ran from police "because I wanted to go home and live good."
