Driver Reportedly Four Times Over Legal Limit In Deadly DUI Crash

MIAMI (CBSMiami) – A South Florida man was reportedly more than four times over the legal limit for alcohol when he struck and killed a pedestrian last month near the Miami Dade College medical campus.

Friday morning Carlos Padron was formally arraigned on a charge of DUI manslaughter.

Padron had a blood alcohol level of .337 when he struck a man at the intersection of NW 7th Avenue and NW 20th Street, according to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald.

After striking the man, Padron crashed into a concrete pole, right next to a bus stop.

Padron stayed on the scene and police said he failed the roadside sobriety test.

Police and a witness said a doctor on the scene and other good Samaritans tried to save the pedestrian's life. They performed CPR before emergency crews arrived.

Miami Fire Rescue workers transported the victim to the Ryder Trauma Center at Jackson Memorial Hospital where he did die.
