Driver "Feels The Heat" During Morning Commute
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) – It was a rough ride for a South Florida driver early Tuesday morning when his car caught fire in Fort Lauderdale but as good luck would have it, there was a Fort Lauderdale Fire Rescue Captain traveling right behind him.
Captain Raymond Cicero was driving behind the car on the off-ramp from I-95 northbound to Broward Boulevard when the car's engine caught fire, according to City of Fort Lauderdale spokesman Matt Little.
The Captain and two Fort Lauderdale Police Department alerted dispatch, directed the driver to move a safe distance away from the vehicle and stopped traffic.
Firefighters quickly put the fire out.
The cause of the fire was a mechanical malfunction with the fire originating in the engine compartment. The vehicle is a total loss.There were no injuries.
