Drag Queen, Giant Orange Celebrate SoFla In 2013
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - From the New River to the crowds of Duval street, South Floridians gathered to watch things rise, fall, and flounce to mark the arrival of midnight and the year 2013.
In Miami, Bayfront Park and he Intercontinental Hotel hosted El Gran Naranja, or the Big Orange, as it made it's way to the top of the hotel for Midnight and the arrival of 2013. Tens of thousands of people watched the new year's arrival and the fireworks show that followed.
Miami's celebration is unique because the orange rises to the top instead of falling like the ball in Times Square.
In Fort Lauderdale, music, food and dancing marked their celebration, which featured a traditional falling ball.
Possibly the oddest way to celebrate takes place every year in Key West, when a transvestite performer named Sushi climbs into a giant shoe and is lowered to the crowd waiting below.
Key West's Duval street was packed at midnight as revelers urged Sushi on, counting down to to her arrival and the start of 2013.
