Doral PD Cop Seriously Injured In Crash
Doral (CBS4) – A Doral police officer on a motorcycle was seriously injured late Saturday night in a traffic accident.
Officer Rafael Cubelo was heading south on NW 87th Avenue when, according to police, he was cut off by a driver making an illegal U-turn.
The force of the impact sent the 51-year old Cubelo flying 50 to 60 feet in the air. Helena Poleda with the Doral police department said Cubelo, who was wearing a helmet, sustained internal injuries and broken bones, including a collapsed lung. He was airlifted to the Ryder Trauma Center where his condition is serious but stable.
The driver who made the turn stayed on the scene until police arrived and was given a citation.
Officer Cubelo has been with the Doral police department for two years, and was preciously a police officer with the City of South Miami for close to 20 years.
