Doral Passes Resolution Supporting Citizenship For Venezuelan Illegals
DORAL, Fla. (CBSMiami/AP) — Mayor Luigi Boria, who attracted national attention for his proposal to make Doral an officially bilingual city, has turned his focus to immigration reform.
Boria proposed a resolution in support of the comprehensive immigration bill being worked on by a group of bipartisan senators. The resolution also supports the Venezuelan Liberty Act. The act would provide a path to legalization for illegal Venezuelan immigrants who fled after Hugo Chavez became president in 1999.
The Doral City Council voted in favor of the resolution at its meeting on Monday.
In February, Boria tried to make Spanish the official second language of Doral. He was rebuffed by all council members and numerous constituents.
Doral has the largest concentration of Venezuelans in the U.S.
