Doral Passes Proposed Benefits For Domestic Partnership

DORAL (CBSMiami) – The City of Doral has become the latest South Florida city to approve domestic partnership benefits for city employees.

The City Council unanimously passed the domestic partnership benefits plan on September 10th, which was sponsored by Councilwoman Sandra Ruiz.

Doral now joins six other cities in Miami-Dade County, including Coral Gables and Miami Beach, that have adopted domestic partnership benefits.

SAVE Dade wrote in a statement Friday, "As South Florida's voice for the LGBT community, SAVE applauds Councilwoman Ruiz's pro-equality stance by making sure she serves in a city that provides domestic partnership benefits to its employees. Domestic Partnership Benefits not only serve LGBT couples who are in committed relationships, but they also sends a strong message to LGBT families and youth that the City they call home is inclusive and protective of them," said SAVE Executive Director Tony Lima.

"I am grateful to my colleagues Mayor Boria, Vice Mayor Fraga and Councilwoman Rodriguez for their unconditional support. Providing healthcare to all families is important to our city's workforce" said Councilwoman Ruiz.
