Doral Business Burglar Busier Than First Reported
DORAL (CBSMiami) – It seems a smash and grab burglar in Doral was busier than first reported over the weekend.
On Monday, Doral police reported surveillance cameras captured a man smash in the glass front doors of a Subway restaurant and Sopranos at Doral pizza restaurant in the 7800 block of NW 25th Street on Sunday morning just after 5 a.m.
Once inside each restaurant, he made straight for the cash registers. In the Subway, the register was empty. It was a different story at Sopranos.
"He jumped over (the counter) and came to the cash register and took the whole box," said employee Amayli Quintero.
Quintero said the burglar got away with $551.
Now police say they suspect the brazen burglar was also be responsible for 'smash and grabs' at two more restaurants earlier that morning.
Around 1:30 a.m., surveillance cameras captured a man wearing shorts and white hoody running around inside the Moe's Southwest Grill at 10660 NW 19th Street. On the video, the man went straight for the register and left with it.
No one realized the restaurant had been broken into until around 6:30 a.m. when an employee arrived for work and found the glass front door had been smashed in. Police say around $500 in property was taken.
Half an hour after the Moe's break in, there was another 'smash and grab' at a night club/lounge not too far way.
Just before 2 a.m. surveillance cameras capture burglar pull up in front of Donde Poncho at 5401 NW 79th Avenue in an older four door vehicle with no hub caps on the passenger side.
A camera inside the club captured the subject, who was wearing a light-colored hoodie and a black shirt go directly to the hostess desk and remove 30 concert tickets (Los Iracundos) and 15 concert tickets (Los Caballeros) from Ticketmaster. He then removed the cash register and left.
Video from the outside camera shows him place the cash register in the trunk and drive off.
Owner Altonso Obando, 70, told police they had event Saturday and there had been approximately 7,000.00 in the stolen register along with a gold watch and a gold ring. The total amount taken, according to Obando, was approximately $24,470.00.
Obando also told detectives earlier in the week he saw a man in a black Jeep pull up in front of the club and take several pictures. Police are trying to determine if this and break in are related.
