Don't Just Trash Your Tree, Recycle It Instead

MIAMI (CBSMiami) - It may be Christmas Day, but some planners are already looking ahead at how to properly dispose of the tree, once the ornaments and lights have been taken down, of course.
Beginning Saturday, December 26th, Miami-Dade residents can take their trees - free of ornaments and stands - these Trash and Recycling Centers.

- Palm Springs North - 7870 NW 178 St.
- Golden Glades - 140 NW 160 St.
- West Little River - 1830 NW 79 St.
- Snapper Creek - 2200 SW 117 Ave.
- Sunset Kendall - 8000 SW 107 Ave.
- Richmond Heights - 14050 Boggs Dr.
- West Perrine - 16651 SW 107 Ave.
- Eureka Drive - 9401 SW 184 St.
- South Miami Heights - 20800 SW 117 Ct.
- Moody Drive - 12970 SW 268 St.
Christmas tree mulch will be available at the following six locations beginning in early February 2016, for residents to pick up using their own shovels, bags or containers, on a first-come, first-served basis, while supplies last.

If the idea of hauling the tree to the recycling center seems to be too much of a hassle, residents may cut the tree into smaller pieces and place it inside their green waste cart for collection on any of their regularly scheduled waste collection days. The tree must fit entirely inside the waste cart. Trees placed next to the waste cart cannot be collected by the automated waste collection truck.
Residents who don't want to cut up their trees can leave them curbside through January 8th, 2016. Trees left curbside after this date will not be picked up and will have to be dropped off or cut up and put inside the green bin.
In Broward, trees can be brought in for recycling at the locations from Dec. 26th to January 18th, 2016. Hours vary; call the park of your choice for details.

Regular, weekend and holiday gate entrance fees will not be in effect for recyclers.
