Don King's "Turkey Tour" Hits The Road
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Delayed for a about a week after some major trouble with a truckload of turkeys, boxing promoter Don King hit the road Thursday for his annual "Turkey Tour."
Making stops in Palm Beach, Deerfield Beach and Miami, King along with boxing champs Tavoris Cloud, Joey Hernandez and Angelo "The Cobra" Santana handed out hundreds of turkeys to needy families just in time for Christmas. The deserving families were selected by local officials and charities.
The 50 year tradition came to a grinding halt last Thursday when a truck full of 2,000 turkeys from Arkansas bound for South Florida went missing over night. It was found abandoned near Pompano Beach the following morning, the same day King had planned to distribute them.
After a few calls, replacement turkeys were arranged from Butterball and the "Turkey Tour" was back on.
King says he hopes his passion for good deeds will be contagious this holiday season and beyond.
"This gesture here is just something I've been doing, it's something that everybody should start doing, look around and touch their neighbor because we are in a major crisis," King said.
