Dolphins Vs Jets 2013 NFL Injury Reports Detail 25 Bodies
By Abraham Gutierrez
As the Dolphins and Jets put the finishing touches on their Week 13 preparations, two of the oldest NFL clichés summarize each team's penultimate 2013 injury reports.
With more aching bodies than an ER lobby, "Injuries are part of the game" and "Bitten by the injury bug," would best describe the combined 25 players detailed in this week's NFL files.
Under normal circumstances, overcoming 12 injured players would be a very tall task for any NFL team to overcome. However, when the opposition's injury-tally equals 13, the playing field has been leveled.
Miami Dolphins Injury Report (Week 13)
In a game with so much on the line, the first order of business for Joe Philbin and his coaching staff are those players who were either not able to participate, or took limited snaps during this week's team practices.
And while a dozen players appear in the Fins injury report – beginning with (tackle) Jonathan Martin (out indefinitely) – only four were unable to go, which could potentially lead to DNPs.
Labeled as "Did Not Participate In Practice," were three defensive backs and a halfback possibly done for the season due to torn ligaments: (CB) Dimitri Patterson (groin), (CB) Jamar Taylor (hamstring), (S) Chris Clemons (knee/hamstring) and (RB) Daniel Thomas (ankle).
An additional two offensive players that were only able to partake in "Limited" practices this week, their game time status remains unknown.
Listed as "Limited Participation in Practice," were: (WR) Rishard Matthews (back) and (G/C) Sam Brenner (knee). With (C) Mike Pouncey returning from an illness, Brenner, who had moved from guard to center in his absence, returns to his natural position this week.
Finally, there are those players who are banged up enough to be included on this list, but not enough to keep them off the field. Those players are labeled as "Full Participation in Practice," this week, and they are: (S) Jimmy Wilson (abdomen), (LB) Koa Misi (knee), (RB) Marcus Thigpen (wrist), (WR) Marlon Moore (hamstring) and (DT) Jared Odrick (knee).
New York Jets Injury Report (Week 13)
While Rex Ryan's team lists a Baker's Dozen in this week's injury report, much like in their counterpart's case, official game status will not be available until Friday night.
Only three Jets players watched from the sidelines as the team prepared to host the Dolphins. Nevertheless, each one of those potential DNPs could make the difference between an "L" or "W" on game day.
Listed as "Did Not Participate In Practice" in Week 13 were: (WR) Santonio Holmes (foot/hamstring), (CB) Antonio Cromartie (hip) and (TE) Kellen Winslow (knee).
With Miami struggling to run the football, coupled with Daniel Thomas' injured ankle, one of the keys to a Jets victory will be defending the pass. Needless to say, Cromartie's game status is something Jets and Dolphins fan will be keeping a close eye on.
"That's tough to call right now. That one truly could be a game-timer," said coach Ryan when asked about the health of his two-time Pro Bowl cornerback. "We know he's had a history. He's a durable guy, he plays so we'll see. I hope he does obviously, but we'll see how he feels."
Four additional players partook in limited practice this week, including: (RB) Chris Ivory (ankle), (LB) Garrett McIntyre (knee), (C) Nick Mangold (wrist) and (WR) Jeremy Kerley (elbow).
Finally, some good news for Jets fans, as there were six players who did not miss any significant practice time despite being hobbled by injuries.
The following names are almost guaranteed to take the field against the Fins, in some capacity, considering they were listed as "Full Participation in Practice" this week: (WR) Greg Salas (finger), (DE) Muhammad Wilkerson (wrist), (G) Willie Colon (calf), (DT) Kenrick Ellis (back), (WR) Stephen Hill (knee) and (CB) Dee Milliner (wrist).
