Dolphins Trying To Put The Past Behind Them
DAVIE (CBSMiami) - The Miami Dolphins began the Organized Team Activities (OTA) phase Monday while working toward putting the past behind them after a season of bullying accusations and Twitter comments by players that got them into trouble.
Prior to moving on, Pro Bowl center Mike Pouncey had to clear up his post draft text that read " great pick....I can't wait for our gifts he's getting us l-o-l," concerning top pick Ja'Wuan James.
"Obviously it was a joke, but I'm not here to be a distraction," said Pouncey. "It's all about football right now, so we've moved on from that."
Pouncey may have moved on, but some people cannot overlook the quote and its ties to last season's bullying incident that nearly crippled the franchise and created a circus-like atmosphere that very well may have derailed any playoff hopes the Dolphins may have entertained.
"He's not unlike any other player we have in terms of there is an education process everyone goes through," said Coach Joe Philbin. "Love the energy and effort he brings."
"We've moved on for that," added Pouncey. "I'm not worried about anything in 2013, honestly it's all about 2014 for me."
There have been reports that Pouncey, arguably the Dolphins' best player, would have to undergo a mental health evaluation after he was exposed as a ring leader in the Jonathan Martin and Richie Incognito fiasco. Tuesday, Pouncey cleared the air about any psychological or physical evaluation he may or may not undergo.
"I have no idea, but I don't think I need that," said Pouncey. "I just don't think I do."
"We're in communication with the NFL and when we have additional information, we're in constant communication with them and when a decision is made we'll certainly inform you guys," said Philbin.
