Dolphins Sign K Hocker To Compete With Caleb Sturgis

DAVIE (CBSMiami) – The Miami Dolphins are bringing in some competition for incumbent kicker Caleb Sturgis.
The Dolphins announced on Wednesday that the team has signed former Arkansas kicker Zach Hocker to a futures contract, which makes his part of the team's offseason program.
Hocker was selected in the seventh round of the 2014 NFL Draft by the Washington Redskins but was unable to beat out veteran kicker Kai Forbath for a spot on their roster.
Following a successful tenure at Arkansas in which Hocker left the school with records for points scored (354), made field goals (61), field goal percentage (77.2%), PATs made (171) and PAT attempts (173), the 23-year-old spent the 2014 season without a job after being cut by Washington.
He'll enter Dolphins camp challenging Sturgis for Miami's kicking duties.
In 2014 Sturgis had an up-and-down year, making 29 of his 37 field goal attempts. During his two years with the Dolphins Sturgis has made 54 field goals on 71 attempts.
