MIAMI (CBSMiami/AP) – With Charles Clay in Buffalo talking to the Bills, the Miami Dolphins decided not to waste time on filling the void at tight end. On Thursday night, the team announced they signed former Cleveland Brown Jordan Cameron to a two-year, $15 million contract.
"It has been a long day, but we worked it out," Cameron told the Dolphins' web site. "I'm happy to be here, and I'm very excited."
Cameron is coming off an injury-plagued 2014 season, where he only played in 10 contests. He only had 24 receptions for 424 yards and 2 touchdowns.
But if the Dolphins get the Cameron of 2013 – 80 catches, 917 yards and seven touchdowns – then quarterback Ryan Tannehill will have a serious new weapon.
"He is a young, proven Pro Bowl performer with playmaking ability," Dolphins general manager Dennis Hickey said in a statement.
Cameron said Dolphins officials sold him on the chance to play with quarterback Ryan Tannehill.
"They were singing his praises all day today, and it was definitely a big part of my decision," Cameron said.
The Dolphins put a transition tag on Clay last week, but he has since been courted by the Bills.
However, they might still have room for Clay, a four-year starter in Miami. He had 58 catches last season for 605 yards and three scores but was slowed by a knee injury.
Cornerback T.J. Heath, who played in two games late last season with Miami, signed a $585,000, one-year deal.
