Dolphins Owner Ross Pledges Half His Wealth
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - On the cusp of his 73rd birthday, Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross has pledged to give half of his fortune to charity once he passes away.
According to CBS4's news partner the Miami Herald, the billionaire, who turns 73 on Friday, announced that he join the charity "The Giving Pledge" that will donate approximately half of his $4.4 billion wealth to philanthropy.
In Ross's statement on the Giving Pledge website, he credits his choice in making the donation to his middle-class upbringing in Detroit and his deceased uncle Max Fisher.
"Although I have generally conducted my philanthropic efforts privately, I hope through publicly committing to the Giving Pledge that I will inspire others to commit to significant philanthropy the way my uncle inspired me,'' Ross wrote.
