Dolphins O-Line In Flux
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The Miami Dolphins offensive line looked to be in pretty good shape coming out of training camp with all five of the lineman having played together for most of the time. But Tuesday, the line suffered the loss of a veteran that threw the entire line into flux.
Miami announced late Tuesday that right guard Artis Hicks would be put on injured reserve and would not play again this season. Hicks was expected to start at right guard and his 11-years in the NFL were expected to help accelerate the learning process of rookie right tackle Jonathan Martin.
Now with Hicks out, the Dolphins have a choice between backup Nate Garner and John Jerry. The latter is a former third round pick of the Dolphins who has showed flashes, but never been able to consistently play at the NFL level.
Last year, he was demoted last year and Vernon Carey was moved to right guard from tackle. Jerry was also most recently very vocally criticized by coaches during the "Hard Knocks" series.
Tuesday, the Dolphins also re-signed tackle Ray Feinga after cutting quarterback David Garrard and moving Hicks to injured reserve. Feinga was added by the Dolphins for depth purposes.
