Dolphins Home Opener Features Free Skin Cancer Screenings
MIAMI (CBSMiami) — Before the Dolphins' home opener Sunday, fans were offered free skin cancer screenings.
The first 100 fans to get screened during the 9 a.m. to 1 p.m. event received free tickets to the St. Louis Rams game on October 14.
Additionally, melanoma patients were on the field before the game, and a board-certified dermatologist was on-hand to provide a medical perspective on melanoma.
For the Miami Dolphins, skin cancer hits close to home. In 2010, CFO Mark Brockelman lost his wife to melanoma at the young age of 45. Residents of sunshine state should be especially vigilant about protecting themselves against the disease as the sun's UV rays are a risk factor for melanoma.
The event also enabled three fans who attended June's screening event a "rich" opportunity. At halftime, each person kicked a field goal from the 40-yard line for a chance to win $10,000.
