DAVIE (CBSMiami) – As a team the Miami Dolphins have had a disappointing 2015 season that came up far below the team's preseason expectations.
There have been some very strong individual performances though, and those players were recognized on Thursday when the Dolphins announced its team award winners.
Center Mike Pouncey won the Don Shula Leadership Award, receiver Jarvis Landry and safety Reshad Jones were selected as co-winners of the Dan Marino Most Valuable Player Award, left tackle Branden Albert received the Ed Block Courage Award and safety Michael Thomas was chosen for the Nat Moore Community Service Award.
This marks the second time in Pouncey's career that he's received the Don Shula Leadership Award, which is voted on by Dolphins players.
He's the eighth player in team history to receive the award multiple times, joining Dan Marino, Zach Thomas, Derrick Rodgers, Jason Taylor, Junior Seau, Karlos Dansby and Cameron Wake.
Pouncey was also selected to the 2016 Pro Bowl, the third time in his career that he's been selected for the game.
This is the first time that Landry and Jones have been named the Dan Marino Most Valuable Player and just the fourth time in team history that there have been co-winners.
It's the fifth time that a receiver has been given the award, which is voted on by the South Florida media and the organization.
Jones becomes the first safety and just the second defensive back to win the MVP award.
The Nat Moore Community Service Award is chosen by the Miami Dolphins Foundation. Thomas has been very active in the South Florida community, "consistently providing a positive attitude and taking initiative off the field," per the award press release from the team.
Albert is the fifth offensive lineman to win the Ed Block Courage Award and first since Jake Long won it in 2011. After suffering a major knee injury last November against the Detroit Lions, Albert worked very hard both physically and mentally and returned to the Dolphins in time for the first game of the 2015 season.
