Dolphins Cycling Challenge To Honor Jim Mandich
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – The Miami Dolphins announced Friday that the second annual Dolphins Cycling Challenge will honor the memory of Jim "Mad Dog" Mandich and benefit the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The two-day, 170 mile cycling event is used to increase cancer awareness, encourage healthy hobbies, and raise funds for the Sylvester Cancer Center.
"The DCC is part of Jim Mandich's lasting and impactful legacy on the Miami Dolphins," said Dolphins CEO Mike Dee. "He approached his bout with cancer with the same tenacity that he approached life."
In the first year of the event in 2010, the DCC had more than 400 riders and raised more than $533,000 for cancer research.
"This event truly exemplifies the heart of Sylvester," says W. Jarrard Goodwin, M.D., chief medical officer at Sylvester. "Just as our patients come from across the tri-county area for cancer care, the DCC takes us across those same areas to generate awareness and raise money to fund research."
Riders will have to pay $150 and there will be a fundraising minimum goal of between $500 and $1500, depending on which ride you sign up to attend.
