Dolphins Cycling Challenge Tackles Cancer One Mile At A Time
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Thousands of South Floridians are getting ready to lace up their racing shoes and jump on their bikes to ride in the fight against cancer at the 4th annual Dolphins Cycling Challenge.
The DCC is a two-day tri-county charity cycling event which takes place this weekend at Sunlife Stadium.
One hundred percent of the money raised in the DCC goes to research at the University of Miami's Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. These donations support healthy lifestyles, community awareness and cancer research at Sylvester.
The two-day challenge consists of seven different routes that bikers can take, throughout the tri-county area.
CBS4, a corporate sponsor of the event, has a team which includes VP/General Manager Adam Levy, Anchors Eliott Rodriguez and Summer Knowles, and Sports Anchor Kim Bokamper.
The CBS4 crew is taking part in the 30-40 mile race on November 2nd.
Rides begin in Miami-Dade at Sun Life Stadium, in Boca Raton at Mizner Park Amphitheater, in Palm Beach at CityPlace and at Dolphins Training Camp throughout the weekend.
Last year, the Dolphins Cycling Challenge raised $2.2 million for Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center. The event has raised about $4 million since its inception in 2010.
The goal is to raise as much as $10 million.
There are more than 2,700 riders already registered who have already raised more than $1.9 million.

The DCC will also pay tribute to late Fins great Jim "Mad Dog" Mandich.
The Dolphins launched the cycling challenge in 2010 to honor Mandich as he was battling bile duct cancer.
DCC IV Cyclists will be honored on field at the Carolina Panthers v Miami Dolphins home game on November 24th at 1pm at Sun Life Stadium. The check representing 100-percent of rider raised funds will be presented to Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center in a pre-game on-field ceremony at that time.
