Dolphins Cycling Challenge Doubles Riders
MIAMI (CBSMiami) - Thousands of bicyclists will take to South Florida roads in November for the Dolphins Cycling Challenge.
The two-day challenge consists of seven different routes that bikers can take, throughout the tri-county area.
The Dolphins Cycling Challenge (DCC) number of registered riders for DCC IV has passed the 1,000 mark.
That number is double the number of riders at this point of registration in 2012.
At this pace, ridership will reach the projected goal of 2,500 riders by the weekend of the challenge.
Doubling riders means more money will be raised for cancer research at the Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The center has raised almost $4,000,000 in its first three years of existence.

The DCC will raise money for the University of Miami's Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.
It will also pay tribute to late Fins great Jim "Mad Dog" Mandich and the University of Miami's Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center.
The Dolphins launched the cycling challenge in 2010 to honor Mandich as he was battling bile duct cancer.
Bikers will start at Sun Life Stadium and then ride for 170 miles over the next two days. There's also a 30 mile leg for those wanting a shorter ride.
The Sylvester Comprehensive Cancer Center has raised almost $4,000,000 in its first three years of existence.
"The excitement within the community and among our teams is growing every day," said Dolphins Cycling Challenge CEO, Michael Mandich. "We are honored so many people will ride to tackle cancer this November and hope that many more sign up in the next few weeks."
The Ride DCC Race is at Sun Life Stadium on November 2nd and 3rd. If you'd like to sign up or donate click here.
