Dolphins Continue Head Coaching Search
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – The coaching carousel in the NFL is coming to an end and the Miami Dolphins are one of only three teams without a head coach.
The Dolphins, Tampa Bay Buccaneers, and Oakland Raiders are all looking for a head coach after each team fired their head coach last season.
Miami went hard after Jeff Fisher only to see the coach choose to go to the perennial doormat St. Louis Rams rather than bring his skills to South Florida.
However, late Tuesday, CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald reported that Mike Zimmer has been removed from consideration for the jobs.
The Dolphins have moved on to the second round of interviews and, according to the Herald, the group includes only former interim coach Todd Bowles, Green Bay Packers offensive coordinator Joe Philbin, and Denver Broncos offensive coordinator Mike McCoy.
All of the second round of interviews will be conducted this week in New York where Dolphins owner Stephen Ross is spending the next few days, according to the Herald.
Additionally, Armando Salguero of the Herald reported late Tuesday that a source told him that Philbin is ready to relocate to South Florida if offered the job.
Philbin had a personal tragedy last weekend. While he was in Miami interviewing for the Dolphins job, his son drowned.
Still, none of those candidates have name recognition that Fins owner Stephen Ross wanted, but all may bring a fire the Fins desperately need.
The Buccaneers have interviewed several candidates including Marty Schottenheimer, Zimmer, and possibly Joe Philbin.
The Raiders are interviewing Winston Moss, Dennis Allen, Mike McCoy, and Carmichael.
