Dolphins Announce New CEO
DAVIE (CBSMiami) - Miami Dolphins owner Stephen Ross named Tom Garfinkel as the team's new President and Chief Executive Officer in what amounts to be almost a trade of executive officers.
Garfinkel takes over for Mike Dee who left to take over the San Diego Padres as CEO. Garfinkel joins the Fins after serving as CEO of the Padres since April 2012.
"Tom has all of the qualities that we said were important in making this hire. Throughout an exhaustive process, Tom simply stood out from what was a great pool of candidates and it became an obvious choice," Ross said in a statement. "His intellect, leadership philosophy, and strategic mindset were clear separators. He is the right person because he is a leader with vision and integrity who can take this organization to the next level."
Before taking over the Padres, Garfinkel served as Executive Vice-President and Chief Operating Officer of the Arizona Diamondbacks and has also served as Executive Vice President of the Chip Ganassi Racing Teams.
"Through my years as an owner in Hall of Fame Racing and the San Diego Padres, I had the pleasure of watching Tom Garfinkel operate and manage our organizations. He is a highly capable and talented individual who will be a tremendous asset to the Miami Dolphins' front office," said Pro Football Hall of Famer Troy Aikman in a statement.
