Dogs Hope To Be "Weiners" In New Year's Eve Walk
KEY WEST (CBSMiami/FKNB) - The New Year's Eve revelry in Key West will got started early Tuesday during the annual Key West Dachsund Walk.
The about 200 dogs, along with their human companions, staged the annual Key West Dachshund Walk in Key West's downtown.
Many of the dogs wore offbeat costumes or accessories. Standouts included dogs garbed as wieners in buns, superheroes, sea creatures and a pirate carrying a sword nearly the length of his body.
Philadelphians Craig and Christa Healy dressed their dachshund as a "cocktail wiener" in a pseudo martini glass complete with oversized olives.

The walking route is kept brief to cater to the dachshunds' short legs. Old or sedentary participants can ride along in wagons or strollers.
Four different, and much warmer, answers to New York City's ball drop are planned to welcome 2014. On Key West's Duval Street outside the Bourbon Street Pub, thousands are to gather to watch the lavishly gowned drag queen Sushi "drop" in a large high-heeled shoe.
Revelers on lower Duval Street can watch the "drop" of a giant man-made conch shell, the symbol of the Florida Keys, to the flat roof of Sloppy Joe's Bar.
New Year's Eve merriment also salutes Key West's colorful seafaring heritage with the lowering of a costumed "pirate wench" from the top of a tall ship's mast, and indigenous flavors with the splashdown of a huge replica Key lime wedge into a six-foot-tall margarita glass.
