DMV Adding "Pit Bosses" To Offices
TALLAHASSEE (CBS4) - The Florida Department of Highway Safety and Motor Vehicles is a taking a cue from Las Vegas and putting 'pit bosses' in some of its busiest offices in an effort to speed up service.
In addition to the 'pit bosses', which will help keep things moving by running driver licenses from the printer to the examiner so they don't have to leave their stations, the department also plans to add more staff, according to CBS4 news partner The Miami Herald.
Complaints of long waits have plagued the department, especially in Miami-Dade and Broward Counties where people who don't have appointments often wait in line for hours.
Customers who make appointments fare better in Miami-Dade; at the end of 2010 their wait time averaged around 17 minutes. Broward drivers and would-be drivers with appointments had to wait nearly double that.

Longer wait times have been on the increase since January 2010, when new identification requirements were put in place in response to the September 11th, 2001 attacks.
Drivers who have to renew their license in person, along with those applying for a new license or ID card, must not only provide a primary form of identification (birth certificate or valid passport), they must also provide proof of a Social Security number and proof of residency which can include utility bills and bank statements.
The department urges those who need to renew their license to do so online if possible.
