Divine Dining Goes Surf & Turf At Chatham House Restaurant
FORT LAUDERDALE (CBSMiami) - Chef Shashank Agtey is an award winning master chef in the kitchen at Chatham House Restaurant in Lauderdale-By-The-Sea. He conducts his culinary creations as a one man orchestra, moving with ease and speed describing how more than year ago, under his direction, the restaurant went from serving Italian fare, to a seafood restaurant with Cape Cod flair.
"We want to develop a culture. Seafood, steak everything fresh. We've toned down our menu a bit, so we can stream line it. We got rid of some stuff that we didn't need and we just multiplied on our seafood," said Chef Agtey.
Agtey's strategy for success has worked. One of the new owners of Chatham, which is just across the street from the beach, is tennis champion Eddie Dibbs.
Dibbs, a Miami Beach local, felt the old menu was dated and a new Chatham House could attract a new crowd.
"We're getting a different crowd. We were Italian and now we're getting a set of people…a new demographic, a younger crowd," Agtey said.
During CBS4's Lisa Petrillo visit, the Chef prepared seared scallops, dusted with paprika, and placed a dollop of sundried tomato basil aioli. He also whipped up macadamia encrusted grouper, stuffed with sun dried tomatoes, spinach and garlic.
Also prepared, a beef tenderloin topped with sautéed mushrooms.
Petrillo tasted the seared scallops first to which she found, "really soft and really flavorful."
She followed the scallops with a bite of the sautéed stuffed grouper which she said was, "sautéed to perfection."
And finally, she tried the beef tenderloin, "there's a reduction with the mushrooms and the marsala sauce. That is delicious," Petrillo said.
Chatham House restaurant is perfect for the enjoyment of the freshest fish in a friendly and casual divine dining atmosphere.
