Disaster Loan Center Opened In Sunrise For Tornado, Storm Claims
SUNRISE (CBSMiami) – Broward and Miami-Dade homeowners whose residences were damaged by last months tornado and severe storms on October 18th can now apply for a loan from the Small Business Association to help with repairs.
The Disaster Loan Outreach Center opened Tuesday in the training room of the Sunrise Utilities Building at 777 Sawgrass Corporate Parkway.
Last months tornado had top winds of 120 mph, according to the National Weather Service in Miami. Up to 50 homes were damaged and a few were destroyed.
The loans were made possible after the SBA issued Physical Disaster Declaration for the State of Florida, which includes homes impacted not only in Broward County but also in the contiguous counties of Collier, Hendry, Miami-Dade and Palm Beach.
The loans can be used to repair or replace damaged real estate and other property.
"Many people have come together to make this declaration possible, including officials from the impacted cities of Plantation and Sunrise as well as officials from Broward County," said Broward Emergency Management Director Chuck Lanza.
The center will be open Monday-Friday 9 a.m. to 6 p.m. and on Saturday from 9 a.m. to 1 p.m.
Applications for physical damage can be filed through Dec. 27. The deadline for economic injury applications is July 27, 2012.
