Dillard High Basketball Imposter Headed To Texas Prison
ODESSA, Texas (CBSMiami.com) – Guerdwich Montimere, a 22-year-old man who posed as a Texas high school basketball player after graduating from Dillard High, has accepted a plea deal in Texas and will serve three years in prison.
Montimere pleaded guilty to two counts of sexual assault and three counts of tampering with government records.
Montimere had been facing charges of sexual assault, a second-degree felony in Texas, according to the South Florida Sun-Sentinel. Montimere posed as 16-year-old Jerry Joseph in Texas until he was recognized by coaches at a basketball tournament.
After that, school officials and media outlets further exposed Montimere's scheme.
While at Dillard, Montimere helped push the basketball team to a berth in the state playoffs. His trouble with the legal system came after a 16-year-old girl told school officials she'd been in a relationship with Montimere.
Police in Odessa said that based on the girl's age, Montimere had engaged in a sexual relationship with the girl when she was 15-years-old, according to the Sun-Sentinel.
Montimere will have to register as a sex offender, according to the CBS affiliate in Odessa.
