Details Emerge As Wells & NFLPA Investigate Fins
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Independent investigator Ted Wells remained in Miami Wednesday as he continued to conduct interviews with Miami Dolphins players and staffers over the harassment alleged by tackle Jonathan Martin.
According to NFL.com's Jeff Darlington, Dolphins general manager Jeff Ireland met with Wells for more than two hours in what was described as "the most extensive" meeting since the investigator arrived on Monday morning.
Darlington tweeted that members of the NFL Players Association also arrived in Miami on Tuesday to "serve as counsel for several of the Dolphins players" being questioned as part of the independent investigation ordered by the NFL.
Still, according to Darlington, several players who were close to Martin and guard Richie Incognito, who was suspended for four games for conduct detrimental to the team, have spoken to Wells as part of the investigation.
Martin met with Wells for nearly seven hours in New York last Friday. Incognito has yet to talk with Wells and has yet to rejoin the team.
While the Dolphins are being interviewed by Wells, a separate hearing is set to get underway Thursday involving Incognito. The suspended guard filed a grievance against the team for his suspension and asked for an expedited hearing.
The hearing was scheduled for Thursday and even though the Dolphins have asked for a delay in the hearing; it's still set for Thursday. Incognito will be represented by his attorney and have representation from the NFLPA also in attendance.
And while the investigation and hearing are ongoing, a separate investigation was launched on Tuesday.
The NFLPA announced that attorney Richard Smith would be looking into the Dolphins' management role in the events that led to Martin walking away from the Dolphins on October 28. Smith is also working with the NFLPA to assist with the representation of Dolphins players, according to ProFootballTalk.com.
