Designer Swim Wear Heats Up Miami Beach
MIAMI BEACH (CBS4) - Miami Beach is a fashion lover's paradise this weekend as Mercedez-Benz Fashion Week: Swim heats up the runway at the Raleigh Hotel.
"Nothing compares to Fashion Week," said blogger Deidre McMillan. "We have lots of events here, but nothing on this level.
McMillan was one of hundreds in attendance for designer Mara Hoffman's show Saturday night.
The event was so packed, some had to watch on a screen set up outside by the hotel pool.
"Really bright, really nice, absolutely perfect," McMillan said after the show. "The best show so far."
Hoffman's tribal chic looks wowed the crowd, including reality stars Angela Simmons and Marysol Patton. Fashion attorney and brand consultant Kandron Jones loved the show's vibe.
"It was amazing. I love the hair. The hair was everything. The random braids and the big fluffy hair," Jones explained. "The cowboy and Indian thing, I totally got it with the tribal inspired with the cowboy boots."
Sports Illustrated Swim Suit Model Nina Agdal started her career in Miami and said it's the perfect place for this type of event.
"It's sunny here. It's hot here," Agdal said. "So you have to have a nice swimsuit!"
Only select designers' lines are seen on the catwalk, but many are in town from around the world just to get a glimpse of what's hot for next season.
"We're excited to be here to be around all the craziness, to be a part of Miami Fashion Week," designer Ava Sanjurjo said. "It's been a real thrill."
Sanjurjo's line, Rica Swim, is light, bright and young; a perfect fit for South Florida.
"This is where to be right now," Sanjurjo said.
Swim Week ends Monday, July 23rd.
