DeQuan Jones Cleared To Play
MIAMI (CBSMiami.com) – The Miami Hurricanes basketball team got a shot-in-the-arm Tuesday when Dequan Jones was cleared by the NCAA and UM to return to the team, according to CBSSports.com's Bruce Feldman.
Jones had been sitting out while the NCAA was investigating allegations he was recruited with the help of roughly $10,000 from a booster.
Jones was implicated in the Nevin Shapiro scandal that broke in August.
Jones had recently retained an attorney and filed an appeal to overturn his season-long suspension, according to CBS4 news partner the Miami Herald. Jones was suspended as a precaution to protect the team, the Herald reported.
The senior forward from Stone Mountain, Georgia averaged 4.5 points and 2.5 rebounds in 14 minutes per game last season with the Hurricanes.
