Deputies: Woman Accused Of Beating Child, Forcing Her To Wear Shirt Saying She Had Bad Grades

BROOKSVILLE, Fla. (CBS Miami) – A woman has been arrested after police accused her of beating a child with a belt and making her wear a shirt to school that she said she had bad grades.

Deputies arrested Melany Joyce Alexander after they investigated a report of abuse at the West Hernando Middle School.

The girl wore a shirt to school with marking writing on the front and back, according to the arrest report obtained by the Hernando County Sheriff's Department. The front of the shirt read, "I currently have all Fs in all of my classes. I am not aloud [sic] have a boyfriend no time soon. So back off before I get another good wooping [sic] like I got last night."

The girl was also found to have numerous bruises and belt marks on her arms and shoulders down to her wrists which deputies say is consistent to being struck by a belt.

According to Bay News 9, Alexander admitted to investigators and a staff member of the Department of Children and Families to striking the girl "numerous times with a white leather belt because she was failing school."

Alexander has been charged with child abuse.
