Denver Broncos Star Player Arrested On South Beach
MIAMI BEACH (CBS4) – Denver Broncos' star player Elvis Dumervil is facing charges of aggravated assault with a deadly weapon after Miami Beach police said he was involved in an altercation with a driver on South Beach Saturday night.
Det. Vivian Hernandez said it appears the incident started as an argument over a parking spot near 7th St. and Collins Ave.
Police said tensions escalated and the two-time NFL Pro-Bowler reportedly flashed a firearm. Det. Hernandez said two firearms were involved.
Hernandez says another man, Andy Aguste, 27, was also arrested.
Dumervil's agent, Marty Magid, said in a phone interview things never got physical.
"No assault took place," Magid said Sunday. "I think that once the investigation is complete, no charges will be filed."
Dumervil, 28, is a defensive end for the Broncos. He is a Miami native who once played for Miami Jackson Senior High School.
"Elvis is a great person and a great individual," Magid said. "It's unfortunate this has arisen."
Dumervil is out of jail on bond. He is represented by attorney Harvey Steinberg.
"Our organization is aware of the matter and is continuing to gather the facts," the Denver Broncos said in a statement released Sunday. "This is a very serious allegation, and we will thoroughly review the details while the legal process runs its course."
