Dems Put Ted Nugent In the Crosshairs
MIAMI (CBSMiami) – Democratic National Committee chair and Florida Congresswoman Debbie Wasserman Schultz has called on the Republican Party and Mitt Romney to denounce Ted Nugent over his most recent comments.
According to TalkingPointsmemo.com, Nugent said President Barack Obama is a criminal and said he had a "vile, evil America-hating administration wiping its *expletive* with the Constitution." Nugent continued saying "If Barack Obama becomes the president in November, again, I will either be dead or in jail by this time next year."
According to the report, Nugent concluded his remarks at the NRA convention saying, "We need to ride into that battlefield and chop their heads off in November. Any questions?"
Nugent, who has been a leading gun advocate for the last few years, has turned up his anti-Obama rhetoric ever since the President took the oath of office. Nugent is most well-known for his rock hits of the 1970's "Cat Scratch Fever," and "Stranglehold."
Democrats are calling for Republicans to distance themselves from Nugent after Democrats retreated from Hillary Rosen for her comments about Ann Romney. Republicans spent the better part of the last weekend calling for apologies and more from Rosen. Wasserman Schultz wants a similar apology.
"Mitt Romney surrogate Ted Nugent made offensive comment about President Obama and November's elections this weekend that are despicable, deplorable and completely beyond the pale," the DNC chair said in a statement. "He called the Administration 'vile,evil' and 'America hating,' and said much worse."
Wasserman Schultz continued, "Yet what have we heard from Mitt Romney and the Republican Party who should be outraged that someone representing them is using language like this to make a political point? Absolutely nothing."
Nugent also took aim at the U.S. Supreme Court during his rant at the NRA convention saying the four liberal leaning justices were "like a stoned hippie."
"And if you want more of those kind of evil, anti-American people in the Supreme Court, then don't get involved and let Obama take office again," Nugent said.
