Democrat Alex Sink Won't Run For Governor In 2014
TALLAHASSEE (CBSMiami/AP) - Florida's former chief financial officer Alex Sink said Friday she will not run for the governor's seat in 2014.
Sink, 65, was the Democratic nominee in 2010 and narrowly lost to Republican Rick Scott, despite the overwhelming tea party wave that year.
Sink told The Associated Press that she wants to spend more time running her foundation, Florida Next, which seeks to help young entrepreneurs grow their startup companies.
The decision is likely one of the final hurdles remaining for former Governor Charlie Crist to move to the top of the list of Democrats likely to challenge Scott next year.
Crist, a former Republican who switched to the Democratic Party, has been rumored to be mulling a challenge to Scott and is expected to make his decision this fall.
Right now, little-known former state Sen. Nan Rich is the only credible candidate seeking to challenge Scott, whose approval rating remains low.
