Ben Preston Wins District 2 Seat In Deerfield Beach Special Election
DEERFIELD BEACH (CBS4) - Voters went to the polls Tuesday night in one Deerfield Beach district for a special election to fill an open commission seat.
With 32 percent of the vote, Ben Preston was elected to the District 2 seat over opponents Andre Samuels, Anthony Davis, and Gloria Battle
Earlier this year, Sylvia Poitier was suspended from the seat after she was charged with five counts of corruption.
Poitier, 75, turned herself in to authorities in May after prosecutors said she failed to disclose a conflict of interest she had with a non-profit association that handles low income housing funds for the city. Her five charges fall under Florida's "Falsifying Records" statute; each count is punishable by a $1,000 fine and up to a year in jail.
