Deerfield Beach Apartment Fire Kills Family's Dog
DEERFIELD BEACH (CBSMiami) -- A fire at an apartment in Deerfield Beach killed a family's dog.
It happened at Siesta Key Apartments inside Tivoli Park.
The fire broke out in one of the upstairs apartments while the tenants were not home.
They arrived to find smoke pouring from their apartment and their dog was inside gasping for air, but it could not be saved.
Authorities tell CBS4 News it appears that the fire started in the kitchen area, but they do not have a cause of the fire.
A total of four people, two in the upstairs unit and two in the downstairs unit, will be displaced at least Monday night.
A friend of the couple whose dog died said the family is taking it hard.
"I told them, 'You guys are alive. The smoke is an invisible enemy. You guys are alive. That's the most important thing,'" said Alberto Alvesdasilva.
One of the four people who is being evacuated has requested assistance from the Red Cross.
