Deadly Morning On South Florida's Roads
MIAMI (CBS4) - A deadly morning on the South Florida's roads as police investigate three fatal crashes.
The Florida Highway Patrol said around 1 a.m. they received a 911 call about a red or maroon colored Chevy pick up truck traveling southbound in the northbound lanes of the highway. They were not able to locate it before it slammed head on into a white Cadillac just north of the Sheridan Street exit. Debris from the impact crashed into the guard rail as the vehicles burst into flames.
Both drivers were killed in the crash.
The FHP said the driver of the pick up truck was a 37-year old man from Zephyrhills and the driver of the Cadillac was a 44-year old man, possibly a visitor from Peru.
Northbound I-75 was closed to traffic to traffic as the vehicles were cleared, drivers were forced to exit as Sheridan Street. All lanes of the highway were re-opened around 7 a.m.
In Deerfield Beach, just before 1:30 a.m. there was a fatal wreck on I-95. The driver and a passenger were killed when their vehicle went off the road and crashed near Hillsboro Boulevard. Traffic was forced to exit at SW 10th Street as the vehicles were cleared.
In Miami, the driver of a pick up truck was killed when he crashed into a tree on Coral Way.
Miami police said Coral Way has been closed to traffic between 17th and 19th Avenues.
Police have not released the name of the driver and are trying to determine if speed played a factor in the crash.
