EXCLUSIVE: DEA Busts 2 Miami-Dade Homes For Pot
MIAMI-DADE (CBSMiami) – Some south Miami-Dade residents may have received the answers to their electricity problems after cops discovered something growing right under their noses.
Drug Enforcement Administration agents raided an operational marijuana grow house on 98th St. and NW 112th Ave and another grow house next door.
The grow house allegedly started three months ago when someone bought one of the houses and rented it out. That is when neighbors, like Robert Weir, noticed that all of the electrical boxes were being blown.
Renters stole anywhere from $500-$1000 worth of electricity every month to fuel both grow houses, said authorities.
Undercover investigators from Miami-Dade and North Miami Beach police departments worked with the DEA to take down the drug houses. One house was found with both marijuana and cocaine.
The police seized about 150 grams of cocaine and about 100 lbs. of marijuana from the houses. Police say that the street value of the drugs is a half-million dollars.
Three people have been arrested on drug trafficking and intent to distribute charges, including 56-year-old Matilde Rodriguez-Valle and 52-year-old Ramon Marin.
Police have not said if both grow houses are connected.
